Naval Station Newport has no schools on base and no DoDEA schools. Rhode Island ties public school enrollment directly to your physical address, so there's no separate on-post system to describe here the way there is at an Army or Air Force installation.

The NAVSTA Newport School Liaison Office services four Rhode Island districts depending on where you live: Newport Public Schools, Middletown Public Schools, Portsmouth Public Schools, and Jamestown Public Schools (Jamestown residents attend North Kingstown or Narragansett schools for grades 9-12 specifically, under an inter-district agreement). On-base housing is limited to two small neighborhoods — Coasters Harbor Island and the Naval Hospital area, both restricted to O-6 and above — so the overwhelming majority of Newport-area military families are dealing with one of these four off-base districts by default, not an on-post option.
